Hermann Hearsay Declines To Cover HHS Prom

Published by Lois Lame, Advertising, Subcriber Services and Lifestyles

Hermann Hearsay declined the opportunity to invade the privacy of our local high school juniors and seniors this Saturday by filming them at the Hermann High School Prom.  We just didn't think we should interfere with this right of passage and special social night for our local young people because of some commercial interest on our part.

In our editorial judgment, not every last little thing which occurs in and around Hermann ought be reported by the invasive media.  We reasoned that church services, weddings, funerals, birthday parties, small group social gatherings at local taverns and proms are private matters.  We reasoned that attendees have the right to the presumption of privacy when attending such affairs.

Perhaps, however, our judgment was wrong.  The "red carpet" interviews conducted by CNL were kind of cute.  We will consider doing it next year.  I think I'll approach it a little differently though.  I'll get Jimmy to spring for an expensive and revealing evening gown for me to wear on the "red carpet".  I'll spend more time with each young high school couple and I'll ask the following questions:
  1. What are your names?  Do you have a drivers license?  Who are your parents?
  2. Who designed your evening gown (girl) and where did you rent your tuxedo (boy)?
  3. Have you guys ever dated each other before?
  4. What are your party plans for after the prom?
  5. What do you think of us bugging you and filming the most important night of your high school years?

Kudos to HermannNews.com for asking the questions that need to be asked!

Published by Jimmy Oldsun, NDRIRSRWRAFTC & Editor

HermannNews.com has posted a couple questions in its 'Forum' section which need to be asked.  We commend them for asking these questions, and we encourage our readers to visit their site and respond to the questions.  The following links will take you right to the 'Forum' questions.

http://www.ngnn.com/65041/forum/whats-happening-or-not-gasconade-county-courthouse-project

http://www.ngnn.com/65041/forum/taxes-used-pay-legal-expenses-attorney-fees

The only problem I have with these two 'Forum' entries is the fact that neither the owner nor the editor of HermannNews.com have been bold enough to state their own position(s) on these two important questions.  Perhaps that is what happens to the owners and editors of online news services when they depend upon paid advertisers and large readerships.  Perhaps they just become timid about clearly stating their own positions on controversial issues.

When you link over to HermannNews.com, you will find that our own Clark Kant is not timid about stating his opinion.  As of Tuesday, 4/20, Clark is the ONLY subscriber to make comments in response to these two questions!  Clark is no shrinking violet!

By the way, although HermannNews.com is a direct competitor, we consider them a very worthy competitor, if not a bit too timid in stating their editorial positions.  They are on the cutting edge of online news website technology.  They are very well-financed.  To their ever-lasting credit, they avoid "yellow journalism" tactics ..... no ambulance and fire truck chasing, no ambush journalism, no constant and exaggerated self-promotion, etc.  We have recommended The Hermann Advertiser-Courier to our readers in the past.  We are also now recommending HermannNews.com to our readers.

Hermann Hearsay On The Leading Edge Of Technology

Published by Frank Furter, Janitor, Frene Creek Monitor and IT Director

We're always incorporating the latest technology into our operations here at 'Hermann Hearsay'.  Some recent technology improvements and upgrades include the following:
  1. Automatic IP address identification system so we can identify the IP address, country and GPS coordinates of our "Anonymous" commenters and our new visitors.  Note:  With this technology, we are able to distinguish unique commenters from repeat commenters.
  2. Automatic counters for total # subscribers, # subscribers online and # visitors online.  Note:  You may have already noticed these numbers after each article or report.
  3. Automatic surge protection for site overload conditions.  Note:  With this new technology, the site will never be down, and we will never have to apologize for the site being down.  We have planned ahead for whatever server capacity and bandwidth capacity we will ever need.  We have contracted for additonal capacity to "kick in" automatically at precisely the instant it is needed.
  4. Automatic identification and alarm system for attempted espionage by competing online news websites.  Note:  Our staff of reporters work hard to develop and publish their stories.  We don't want to give the product of that work away free to competitors.  Therefore, competitors will not be able to access our stories unless and until we permit them to do so.
  5. Automatic comment moderation.  Note:  The volume of comments we are now getting has forced us to implement this unique proprietary system.  This state-of-the-art system checks comments for profane language and it forwards the most unique and meaningful commments to our editor for his response.  This system saves our editor a lot of time, time which he can better spend on his investigative reports and editorial comments.
There are several other improvements that we are considering.  For example, we are developing a low-cost, highly-mobile, wireless live webcam technology that will revolutionize the industry.  With this technology, we will be able to blanket the local area with small, wireless webcams.  Installation will be possible in less than 10 minutes, and we will not be dependent upon the availability of local electrical contractors to get our webcams installed.  We will make the images of these webcams available to any local online news service which desires to use them.  There will of course be a modest fee.  We are also working on two other neat ideas which we call "iReport" and "iTube".  These ideas and new technologies will make high-paid photojournalists, ambush journalists and ambulance chasing journalists a thing of the past.  In fact, these technologies have the potential to threaten the very existence of American journalism schools.  These technologies will bring the news to readers and viewers instantaneously and free of bias and spin!

Ain't technology a beautiful thing?!
