Since Hermann Hearsay's start-up, we have have employed a very liberal comment policy.  We have posted nearly 1,100 articles since our start-up, and we have yet to MODERATE or BAN a single post from our readers due to content or tone.  The only reasons that we would MODERATE or BAN a comment would be if the comment contained profane language or if the comment libeled a private person.

We allow all political views, and we allow our readers to voice their opinions and viewpoints about the job performance of elected public officials.  I have experienced political censorship on another local website myself, and I know others who have also experienced censorship.  At Hermann Hearsay, you can disagree with us, and we will not hold that against you.  We will keep publishing your comments.  We are entitled to our viewpoints which we freely publish on this site .... AND you are also entitled to your viewpoints!  We need to encourage people to express their personal viewpoints in America.  We need more vigorous political debate in America ..... NOT LESS!

We allow our readers to use their real names, fictitious usernames or to just comment "anonymously".  Another local news website takes the view that commenters who use fictitious usernames or who comment anonymously are necessarily more rude and uncivil to other readers than the commenters who use their real names.  We have not found this to be the case thus far on our website.  I believe we attract reasonable and intelligent readers.  We're interested in everything they have to say.  Some are uneasy discussing sensitive topics like politics, religion and public policy if they have to register using their real names.  For example, a local businessman may not be as forthcoming about his political views if he fears losing the business of those who may take an opposite view.  I understand this.  That's why we make it possible for all readers to make comments without the fear of economic reprisal.

Bottomline .... Our comment policy is liberal, and we will keep it that way to encourage free and open discussion.

If you disagree with us, let us know how you see it.  Let us know if you think we're missing something!
