This psalm was written while David was fleeing as his own son, Absalom, was attempting to take over David’s kingdom. The emotions in this psalm run strong and well they should. Yet in the midst of this turmoil David cries out to God to be his shield. God is ultimately the one who lifts our head from our current circumstances. As we cry aloud God will answer!

Northern District Associate Commissioner Matt Penning Vows To Run For Re-Election In 2012 ............

..... and in 2016 ..... and in 2020 ..... and in 2024 ..... and in 2028 ..... and in 2032 ..... and in 2036 ..... and in 2040 ..... OR until such time that the controversial Gasconade County courthouse renovation and office expansion project has been successfully funded and completed!
Penning, now age 55, would be 85 years old in 2040, so he hopes that he will be able to see the courthouse project through to final completion long before then!
Hermann Hearsay caught up with Commissioner Penning in the Hermann City Park this evening where he was helping other Chamber of Commerce members set up for the 6th Annual Hermann BarBQ and Brats Festival which begins this Friday evening. When asked why he is announcing his intention to run for re-election in 2012 and future years at this particular time, Penning pointed to recent announcements by Jerry Lairmore of Owensville and A. E. Newman of Bland to run for the office of Southern District Associate Commissioner of Gasconade County. Penning stated "You can never get started too early campaigning for these positions. My goal is to talk with every single voter in the county's northern district prior to election day on November 6, 2012."

When the Spirit was poured out at Pentecost one of the effects was that the early Christians devoted themselves to the teaching of the Scripture.
There is a difference between devotion and learning. The early believers laid their views on the altar of God’s Word. They allowed it to shape them.
How do you view the Scripture? Are you willing to devote yourself to it? To simply learn is not enough.

We just learned that A. E. Newman's Missouri mule named 'Truman' has won highly-coveted awards from The American Donkey and Mule Society (ADMS).
'Truman' won the blue ribbon award in two categories:
Newman recently announced his candidacy for Southern District Associate Commissioner of Gasconade County. Newman will be opposing incumbent Jerry Lairmore in the 2012 general election.
Newman told Hermann Hearsay that he plans to ride 'Truman' in the 2011 and 2012 Gasconade County Fair Parade in Owensville.

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” – Acts 13:2
Prayer and fasting revealed the next stage of the journey for Barnabas and Saul. How many times have we made major life decisions without the counsel of the Lord? If we are willing to slow down and seek after the Lord we speed up our ability to clearly discern the next step in life. Are you able to trust that God can and will give direction? Are you willing to slow down in order to speed up?

A. E. Newman of Bland, MO announced his candidacy for Southern District Associate Commissioner of Gasconade County this morning at the McDonald's in Owensville. Speaking between bites of an 'Egg McMuffin' breakfast sandwich, Newman's usual breakfast fare, he told reporters that he decided to make the run after careful consideration during the past several weeks.
Newman told reporters he will run as an Independent in the 2012 election campaign. He figures this will assure him of the chance facing off with incumbent Jerry Lairmore of Owensville in the general election. Newman promises to campaign for election to the office every evening and every Saturday and Sunday between now and November 2012. Newman is already very organized. He has a campaign organizer in every city and town in the southern district of Gasconade County except for Canaan. Newman's campaign will be entirely self-funded from the money he makes on his paper route. He will accept NO above-the-table campaign contributions from the voters.
When asked about the planks in his campaign platform, Newman told Hermann Hearsay that he is still formulating his comprehensive platform but he gave us a glimpse by saying that, if elected, he will work hard to:
- upgrade all county roads in the southern district to the high standards of Pigg Hollow Road,
- provide improved benefits to county employees to include: 100% paid cellphone service, 100% paid internet service, $20 per month credit at the McDonald's in Owensvill, $20 per month credit at Bogie's in Owensville and a chicken in every pot,
- hire Horace Brown, recent Missouri S&T grad, as Gasconade County's first county engineer,
- refrain from speaking harshly and cussing out his colleagues during road department meetings at Drake,
- save the county money on its purchases of tires and tire services by building and operating Newman's Tire Store in Drake,
- move county commission meetings to evening sessions so more citizens can attend,
- eliminate ALL political stump speeches in county commission meetings, and
- prohibit arbitrary ejections of senior citizens from county commission meetings.
