MSNBC swears to Allah that Obama's not a Muslim

MSNBC's Monday programming was dedicated to denouncing Sen. Mitch McConnell's response to a question about whether Obama is a Muslim.

McConnell said: "We all have to rely on the word of (Barack Obama) – something about as reliable as a credit default swap."

No, I'm sorry, that's what The Atlantic's Andrew Sullivan said about whether Trig Palin was really Sarah Palin's child.

McConnell responded by demanding that Obama be fired – or at least have his security clearance suspended.

No, no – wrong again: That was Sen. John Kerry and Sen. Chuck Schumer, respectively, not taking Karl Rove at his word when he said he had not released Valerie Plame's name to the press. (It turned out Rove was telling the truth; it was Richard Armitage, and it wasn't a crime.)

What McConnell actually said in response to the Muslim question was: "The president says he's a Christian. I take him at his word. I don't think that's in dispute."

Over at MSNBC, that's Republican code for: "He's a Muslim!"

Brigitte Gabriel combats politically correct notions about the "religion of peace" in "They Must be Stopped: Why We Must Defeat Radical Islam and How we Can Do It"

North Korean TV's Ed Schultz hysterically babbled: "McConnell gave cover. That's what he did. He gave cover to all those low-information voters out there who still believe this garbage about President Obama being a Muslim. ... The Republican leadership just loves to feed the fire."

Chris Matthews was so impressed with Schultz's nonsensical argument that he spent the entire hour on NKTV's "Hardball" making the same one: McConnell had expressed insufficient fervor when he said he believed Obama was a Christian! (Perhaps if McConnell had added something about a thrill running up his leg ...)

The statement "I take him at his word," Matthews said, was a "pitch-perfect dog whistle to the haters." He continued: "Yes, sure, whatever he says. Right. This is not about belief. It's an accusation that President Obama is not one of us. The right wing's attempt to de-Americanize the president."

What else is there besides Obama's word? If Obama suddenly announced that he was a Muslim – or a Buddhist – what evidence would Matthews cite to prove him wrong?

Meanwhile, liberals absolutely refuse to take Republicans at their word when they identify their own children. Or deny leaking a low-level CIA functionary's name to the press.

Or when they deny they are racists.

Indeed, Matthews' guest, Howard Fineman of Newsweek, accused the entire state of Kentucky of bigotry to explain McConnell's "crafted" words.

Kentucky, Fineman said, is "a state where the nativist appeal outside of Louisville really works big-time." The Republicans, he said, are "going to use whatever fear message they can. It's aimed at Kentucky, for sure."

I believe the Bluegrass State has just been called "nativist" without any evidence at all! Was Kentucky's father a nativist? Was it educated in a nativist madrassa as a child? Did Kentucky just endorse the idea of a nativist cultural center at Ground Zero?

On the following night's "Hardball," Tuesday, Matthews and his guest, the Chicago Tribune's Clarence Page, refused to take Glenn Beck at his word when he said that he picked the day for his Lincoln Memorial rally without realizing it was the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. (Everybody knows the 47th anniversary is the big one!)

Accusations of racism apparently do not require the ironclad proof demanded for accusations that someone is a Muslim.

And there's a lot more evidence that Obama's a Muslim than Republicans are racists. Let's compare:

Evidence for the Proposition That Obama's a Muslim: His father was a Muslim; his mother, an atheist, married two Muslims; he attended a Muslim school in Indonesia from age 6 to 10; and, during the campaign, he proudly posted on his webpage his statement that America is "no longer" a Christian nation, a statement he has repeated as president, while announcing on French TV that America is "one of the largest Muslim countries in the world."

Evidence for the Proposition That Republicans Are Racist: (Nothing so far.)

Evidence for the Proposition That Liberals Lie About Republicans Being Racist: Video of a supporter of Rand Paul's opponent pretending to be a racist Paul supporter; Oregon public school teacher Jason Levin caught operating a website asking liberals to show up at tea parties pretending to be right-wing racists; the New York Times' Maureen Dowd claiming she heard Rep. Joe Wilson shout, "You lie, boy!" when he shouted "You lie!" during Obama's speech to a joint session of Congress; and the mainstream media lying about civil-rights hero John Lewis being called the N-word 15 times at an anti-Obamacare protest, with no one ever being able to produce a videotape, despite a $100,000 reward.

If Republicans played by liberal rules, they'd just call Obama a racist, who leaked Valerie Plame's name to the press, is not Sasha's father, and smokes Newports, not Kools.

The German School Museum in Hermann is once again OPEN for tours!  I worked the afternoon shift as a volunteer tour guide on Tuesday, and I was very impressed by all the great work which has been accomplished by Historic Hermann, Inc. this past year.  Joy Kallmeyer and the entire Board of Directors are to be commended for their outstanding efforts in renovating this great Hermann treasure!

If you are retired, have some time on your hands and would like to volunteer at the German School Museum, please call Mike Martens at 486-1013.  This is my second year as a volunteer.  I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience!  Work with a great group of volunteers, and meet interesting visitors from all over the world!  Yesterday, we were visited by a couple from Istanbul, Turkey!  It's always fun to meet new people.

If you're interested in seeing the renovations up close, we invite you to attend the celebration event planned for the afternoon of Sunday, September 12.  Refreshments will be served.

A. E. Newman Named Bland's 'Man Of The Year'

A. E. Newman

Date:  8/24/2010

We are pleased to announce that A. E. Newman, one of Hermann Hearsay's very first subscribers, has been named Bland's 'Man Of The Year'.  A recognition and award presentation ceremony is planned for as soon as a big enough venue can be found to accomodate all of Mr. Newman's relatives, friends and business associates ...... which we've estimated to be about 10 people.

If you are interested in attending this historic event, please contact us for additional details.

Full Disclosure:  It is important to disclose to our readers that Hermann Hearsay intends to endorse A. E. Newman should he decide to run for Gasconade Southern District Associate Commissioner as an Independent in 2012.

Mike Jacquin tries to help out, but offer of assistance is refused!

Published by Dick Schaefer, Award-winning, Unpaid, Part-time Contributing Writer and Amateur Investigative Reporter

Last Thursday at the Gasconade County Commission Meeting in Hermann (not the one in Drake), an "interesting" exchange occurred at the end of the meeting between Southern District Associate Commissioner Jerry Lairmore of Owensville and citizen activist Raymond "Mike" Jacquin of Hermann.  The exchange was recorded and published by CNL's Jeff NoedelHermann Hearsay notes and finds it quite interesting that the 5 minute and 24 second discussion between Lairmore and Jacquin was the only portion of the 8/19 County Commission Meeting which has thus far received any "news" coverage by CNL.

Hermann Hearsay commends Mr. Jacquin for spending $98.10 (after-tax) of his own personal money to assist Commissioner Lairmore with questions he has repeatedly raised regarding tire and tire services expenditures that Northern District Associate Commissioner Matt Penning maintains should be competitively bid, expenditures which have not been bid out for years.  What a great citizen Mike Jacquin is for spending his own money to assist Commissioner Lairmore in the conduct of his official duties, duties which include digging into the details of tire and tire services expenditures so that he can better understand how much money the county has been spending without competitively bidding it!  Thank you, Mike!  Thanks for being a concerned citizen!

I was however disappointed in Commissioner Lairmore for fogging, dodging and deflecting questions and generally avoiding responsibility.  Commissioner Lairmore says he will not accept copies of the tire and tire services invoices for past years.  Apparently Jerry either doesn't have time to review these invoices OR he just doesn't want to be confronted by the inescapable truths which are documented by these invoices.  Which is it, Jerry?

As a side note, I'd like to say that I was disappointed that CNL did not report more substantial and meaningful details about the 8/19 County Commission Meeting.  I suppose that the commissioners did actually conduct some county business in this meeting?  Or is all county business now being conducted out at the Drake maintenance shed where meeting records are not kept?  Guess I'll just have to wait and read the official meeting minutes in The Hermann Advertiser-Courier or get myself a copy of the video tape which Charlie Brown records for airing on the Hermann cable news channel.

We've been posting a Bible verse the past few Sundays.  One of our regular readers has suggested that we post a Bible verse each and everyday.  Another regular reader has told us that we should not get into posting religious material on a daily basis.

We want to be sensitive to the preferences of our readers, so we'd like to ask once again if there would be support for daily Bible verses.  Please tell us what you think!

Coffee Shop Hearsay - Monday, 8/23/2010

Published by Jimmy Oldsun, NDRIRSRWRAFTC & Editor

Date:  8/23/2010

I was in St. Louis from Wednesday of last week until Saturday along with our entire staff.  We took in a Cardinals ballgame, saw the new Julia Roberts movie, ate way too much good food and did a little team building.

When I'm gone that long, I tend to lose touch with what has been happening in Hermann.  The best way I've found to catch up on the news and hearsay is to meet with some of the locals at any one of several good coffee shops here in Hermann.  So that's just what I did early this morning.

Elmer, Cletus, Barry and Thurston, all four loyal Hermann Hearsay subscribers, were already at Hardee's when I walked in.  They waved me over.  After querying me about my activities in St. Louis, they started telling me about recent news and hearsay in Hermann.  We must have gone through three pots of coffee!

The most interesting bit of hearsay they passed on to me was the rumor about one of the county commissioners filing an ethics complaint against another commissioner (or commissioners).  They weren't real clear if the complaint named just one commissioner or two.  I checked out their information at www.mec.mo.gov/ , but no information was posted on the Missouri Ethics Commission website as of 10 a.m. this morning.  I'll keep checking.

The group had heard various stories about the ethics complaint.  Elmer and Barry had heard that the complaint was filed against Jerry Lairmore for calling Matt Penning a "lieing [expletive]" a few weeks ago at a road department meeting.  I told Elmer and Barry that I thought that outburst might have been a flagrant violation of good manners, professionalism and 'The Golden Rule' but that it might not fall under the jurisdiction of The Missouri Ethics CommissionCletus and Thurston had heard that the ethics complaint was filed against Ron Jost and Jerry Lairmore for voting NOT to bid out the county's tire and tire service business this year.  That sounded more credible to me.

I'll have to do some investigating and report back to you later.  If anyone out there has the factual information, I hope you will comment.  I'm thinking my ol' buddy A. Nonymous probably knows something he'd like to tell all of us about.  Perhaps I can get a response from Northern District Associate Commissioner Matt Penning who is rumored to have filed the complaint with the Missouri Ethics Commission.
