“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” – Micah 5:2
We find a pattern with the Scriptures: Abraham was called out of his established place in his father’s household to become a nomad. Once he was outside known territory, God could use him. Moses was required to live in the desert for 40 years before he could lead the Jewish people out of Egypt. It seems that God loves to take mighty things and make them smaller in order to confound the world and it’s wisdom. Bethlehem was a border town with the Gentiles. It was considered unclean and totally out of touch with the rest of the Jewish realm. Yet it was Bethlehem that God chose to birth the Savior of mankind, Jesus Christ. Do you feel that God is whittling you down? Rejoice, he’s getting ready to use you in a great way! Do you see yourself on the margins and insignificant? Congratulations! You’re positioned to do great things for God. He has a record of taking weak and foolish things to confound the strong and wise.

"Miracles: The Holiday Album" is the first holiday album by saxophonist Kenny G. It was released by Arista Records in 1994, and peaked at number 1 on the Billboard 200, Contemporary Jazz Albums and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. According to Billboard magazine, dated October 31, 2007, it is the best-selling Christmas album of the Soundscan era.
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is a Christmas song introduced by Judy Garland in the 1944 MGM musical "Meet Me in St. Louis". Frank Sinatra later recorded a version with modified lyrics, which has become more common than the original. The song was credited to Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane, although during a December 21, 2006 NPR interview, Martin said that Blane had encouraged him to write the song but had not had anything more to do with writing it. In 2007, ASCAP ranked "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" the third most performed Christmas song written by ASCAP members of the past five years.

But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. – Luke 1:30-31
Mary was an amazing woman. Think of the situation: a 13 – 15 year old virgin is told that she has favor with God. Favor? She will be pregnant and have to convince her fiancée that she was not unfaithful. She will have to endure the gossip that will follow her for the rest of her life concerning the birth of her son and the timing of her wedding to Joseph. In the culture of her day, unwed mothers were quietly “put away” (see Matthew 1:18-19). Yet God DOES give Mary favor: He reveals to her the unique role that she plays in God’s purposes. And she embraces that role, even though it will come a great personal cost. We want God to fit into our story, yet Christmas is a reminder that our story is never really understood until it’s seen in the light of God’s story. Joy to the world, the Lord is come. Let earth receive her King!

George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) addressing Mr. Potter (Lionel Barrymore) in "It's A Wonderful Life!" .....
"Just a minute - just a minute. Now, hold on, Mr. Potter. You're right when you say my father was no businessman. I know that. Why he ever started this cheap, penny-ante Building and Loan, I'll never know. But neither you nor anyone else can say anything against his character, because his whole life was - why, in the twenty-five years since he and Uncle Billy started this thing, he never once thought of himself. Isn't that right, Uncle Billy? He didn't save enough money to send Harry to school, let alone me. But he did help a few people get out of your slums, Mr. Potter, and what's wrong with that? Why - here, you're all businessmen here. Doesn't it make them better citizens? Doesn't it make them better customers? You - you said - what'd you say a minute ago? They had to wait and save their money before they even ought to think of a decent home. Wait? Wait for what? Until their children grow up and leave them? Until they're so old and broken down that they... Do you know how long it takes a working man to save five thousand dollars? Just remember this, Mr. Potter, that this rabble you're talking about... they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath? Anyway, my father didn't think so. People were human beings to him. But to you, a warped, frustrated old man, they're cattle. Well, in my book he died a much richer man than you'll ever be."

Bible Verse Of The Day - Sunday, 12/19/2010

And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, – Luke 1:76-77
Zechariah was speaking to his newly born son who would become John the Baptist. Notice what he prophetically speaks to John and ultimately to us: We come to the knowledge of salvation when we understand our sin and the need for forgiveness. We can talk of Jesus being our Savior, but do we realize that means we are not able to change ourselves and need to be rescued? The good news becomes good when we truly realize the state of our souls before God. The birth of John the Baptist reminds us that we are more flawed than we want to admit, but more loved than we could dream. This exposes our fallen nature while embracing the love of God. This empowers us with salvation.
Today’s commentary by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org

Regrettably it is time to begin my trip back home from Tampa today. It's been a great week with my daughter and grandpuppy!
I helped my daughter test drive some new vehicles and dicker over prices with the salesmen. No decision yet but she is beginning to narrow her choice.
I got to see the USF campus in north Tampa. It's a large and beautiful campus. I was surprised to learn that 40,000+ students attend the University of South Florida on that one campus. USF has two other campuses in Florida. I also got to meet some of her fellow grad students in the psychology department and see my daughter's office.
We ate at a lot of good restaurants .... Mexican, Chinese, Indian and seafood. Although we walked the dog each day around the large nature preserve boardering her condo community, I think I have still gained a few pounds.
Yesterday we ate at Crabby Bill's, a great seafood restaurant right on the St. Pete Beach at St. Petersburg, and then we visited the Salvador Dali Art Museum, also in St. Petersburg.
Just as it has warmed up here, I have to begin my long and tedious trek back home to the frigid temperatures back in Missouri. Darn!

Our huntin' trip has been a complete "wipeout"! Too damned cold and too damned miserable! On top of that we got a lot of ice tonight and that will make huntin' in the mornin' not only miserable but also downright dangerous. But we haven't run out of food, beer and whiskey yet! Unfortunately, I have damned near run out of money for our "friendly little poker games". I've hit a streak of bad luck! I may have to run into Warrenton and visit an ATM tomorrow ..... provided the roads are passable!
Maybe I should've stayed in Hermann instead of goin' on this huntin' trip with my buddies! Yet I hear it is cold, miserable and icy in Hermann too!
