Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. – Isaiah 7:13-14

This prophecy of the Messiah was fulfilled in Jesus Christ when He was born to the virgin Mary in a stable. Notice the context in Isaiah. It is during a trying time that this prophecy comes forward. When we look at great achievements, they are rarely done in perfect circumstances. Jesus came to earth during one of Rome’s most bloodthirsty rulers, Herod. This prophecy was given during a trying time in Israel’s history and it was fulfilled in a trying time. Yet in the midst of these trials, God’s promise stood sure. Why would we think that it is any different today?
