Hermann Hearsay Staff Off To Fishing Retreat On The Gasconade River

Every now and then I find it beneficial to take the staff off on a "retreat" where we can all relax, rest and do some team-building.  On Wednesday and Thursday of his week, we will be fishing on the Gasconade River.  My motto is "The team that plays together stays together."  We will be back on duty Friday.

'Scout', Dick Schaefer's New Baby "Granddog"

Dick Schaefer, one of our Premium Subcribers reported to us that he has a new baby "granddog" .... a little girl named 'Scout'.  Dick's daughter, Lauren Schaefer, recently purchased the 5 week-old purebred American Cocker Spaniel from a dog breeder in Lake Wales, Florida.  Lauren attends The University of South Florida in Tampa where she is pursuing a Ph.D. degree in psychology.  Lauren, who received her B.S. degree from Mizzou, is now into her second year of a six year graduate program at USF.  Dick is justifiably proud of both his daughter and his new baby "granddog".  Rumor has it that Dick is handing out "It's a Girl!" cigars around Hermann, telling anyone who will listen about his baby "granddog".

High Hill Woman Wins 'Name The Mascot Contest'

One of our regular readers from High Hill, MO has won Hermann Hearsay's 'Name The Mascot Contest'.  She prefers that we NOT publish her real name, but publish her Username instead.  Her Username is 'RedHot'.

RedHot's winnng name entry was 'Herkimer'.  We thought that was a name that fit our mascot best, and apparently our readers did as well.  The other names that were in the running were:  'Hearsay', 'Hermie' and 'Hubert'.  In the end, our readers chose 'Herkimer'.

Hermann Hearsay is still NUMERO UNO in Horse and Mule Photos and Willie Nelson YouTube Videos!  The latest Hermann area online news media rankings were released by HAMMER (Hermann Area Media Managers, Editors & Reporters) this past Friday.

Jimmy Oldsun, HH Editor, attended the awards luncheon on Friday at the Sharp Corner Tavern, and he made the following remarks when called to the podium to receive the awards plaque:

How Rodney Got His Name

What's in a Name?

I tell you, with me nothing works out. I always get stuck. That's how I got my name, RODNEY DANGERFIELD.

When I went into show business I saw an ad in the paper. It said: "Improve Your Personalilty..." So, I went to see the man.

He told me my personality was okay but my name was my problem.

I said to him, "My name? How could a name be a problem? Even William Shakespeare said, 'What's in a name?"

He said, "Who?"

I said, "William Shakespeare."

He said, "Look, do you want to listen to me or do you want to listen to your friends?"

I said to him, "I don't understand. Is it good to change your name?"

He said, "Of course I always keep changing my name. In fact, right now I can give you a very good deal. I can give you a new name for five hundred dollars".

I said, "Five hundred dollars! That's a lot of money."

He said, "It's a great name. It's a name once people hear it, they'll start saying it."

I said, "What's the name?"

He said, "Rodney Dangerfield."

I said, "RODNEY DANGERFIELD?"

He said, "See, you just heard it, and your're starting to say it! Listen to me, take the name."

I said, "Wait a minute. Suppose I use the name and I don't like it. Can I bring it back?" He said, "Of course. All I ask is one thing. While you're using the name, don't give it a bad name!"

So I decided to call myself Rodney Dangerfield. As soon as I got home, I thought to myself I made a mistake. I called the guy up. I said, "Look, I want my money back. This is Rodney Dangerfield."

He said, "Who?"

I said, "Dangerfield! Don't you remember?"

He said, "Oh, yeah, Shakespeare's friend."

I said, "Look, I don't want the name."

He said, "Don't be foolish. Try it for two weeks. I guarantee you'll like it."

I tried the name for two weeks, I still didn't like it. I went to bring it back. I couldn't find the guy.

He changed his name.

All of us here at Hermann Hearsay want to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to Glenn Warnebold and Renee Simon over at Hermann NEWS and New Haven NEWS ONLINE!!!!

Previously we had posted a report on our website link reciprocity agreement with Hermann NEWS and New Haven NEWS ONLINE for which we are sincerely appreciative.  Now we want to thank Glenn, Renee and their IT staff for designing a really professional-looking banner ad and website link button for us on their website.  We couldn't be happier with the way they used our new logo to design a cool-looking banner ad.

We are providing a link to their website http://www.ngnn.com/ at the bottom of every article we post.  Unfortunately our IT guy (and custodian), Frank Furter, has not yet been able to figure out how to design cool banner ads.  As soon as Frank figures it out, we will reciprocate with a nice banner ad button for Hermann NEWS and New Haven NEWS ONLINE.  (I'm sorry to say that Frank ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer, so this might take us awhile!)
