And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. – 1 Corinthians 6:11

As Paul recounts the sins of the Corinthian believers, he resolves with the work of the gospel. The prior list is graphic, but that is where the mercies of God shine the most. No matter how shameful your background, the good news is that you were washed clean and accepted into God’s family. Jesus took our shameful lives upon Himself through His death on the cross so that we could be justified — or “just if I’d” never sinned. What a glorious pardon! When we realize that we were bought with a price, and what a price Jesus paid, we are compelled to glorify God with our bodies and our lives.

Those who insist upon driving at inappropriately high rates of speed on the white stuff are predictably colliding with other motorists and/or sliding off in the ditches.  Tough!

Those who didn't stock up on milk, eggs, bread and beans will be getting hungry by tomorrow night.  Tough!

Those who didn't bring in the firewood today may have trouble finding it under the heavy snowfall tomorrow.  Tough!

Those who left the bars too late tonight and slipped on the slick, snow-covered sidewalks may have black and blue asses tomorrow.  Tough!

The Bible doesn’t describe sin as something from the outside. It is not like an infection that victimizes us. Instead, our problems are from within. We want to blame our circumstances for our behavior. Current speculations make it is easy to blame genetic coding for bad attitudes. But according to Scripture, we are not victims in need of sympathy, but sinners in need of a savior. But it is in this realization that true change can come. If we don’t realize the problems within, we will continually blame others and grow bitter because our issues follow us wherever we go. To acknowledge our condition before God brings the healing that we desperately need.

1,500 postings! Oh how time flies!

Where does the time go?  It seems like just yesterday we were starting our small, inconsequential blog.  And now 1,500 postings later, it seems like we are just scratching the service of what is possible!  So much more to do!

We want to thank our readers for your support and encouragement.  Thanks for taking an interest in our work and thanks for taking time to leave us an occasional comment.

We also want to recognize and thank HermannMoNews, a relatively new local news blog published by my new friend 'Poor Richard 2011'.  I first met 'Poor Richard 2011' about two months ago when he emailed me to thank HermannHearsay for inspiring him to create his own news blog.  Since that time, we have worked together and shared helpful information.

Woman Falls into Fountain while Texting

Many states have laws against texting while driving because it is dangerous and causes accidents and deaths. The video below is also a demonstration at how dangerous texting can be while walking. At Berkshire Mall, a woman is texting while walking and the lack of focus causes her to trip right into the mall fountain. We live in a culture that sows the seeds of fantasy. We watch “reality shows” (I question how real they are) where young adults are placed in homes and situations that they normally can’t afford. We watch and criticize their antics, but we also allow seeds to be planted in our hearts – we want to live in those homes; we want to have the money to be in those situations. And we don’t understand why we have become disgruntled with our current job and living situations. Guard your heart, for God has given you that job and surrounding. To learn to work the land that you have will reap much greater rewards than chasing media fantasies funded by corporate money.
