Hi folks! This is Frank Furter. I've been asked to take over the weekend weather reporting from Charlie Farquharson. It turns out that Hermann Hearsay can no longer afford Charlie, so I've been asked to give weather forecasting a shot. Apparently I work a lot cheaper than Charlie ...... and well, they're already payin' me to do some other stuff anyway!

The following unverified quotation has been attributed to Alexander Tytler, most notably as part of a longer piece which began circulating on the Internet shortly after the 2000 U.S. Presidential Election:
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

The list beginning "From bondage to spiritual faith" is commonly known as the "Tytler Cycle" or the "Fatal Sequence". Its first known appearance is in a 1943 speech "Industrial Management in a Republic" by H. W. Prentis, president of the Armstrong Cork Company and former president of the National Association of Manufacturers, and appears to be original to Prentis.

Hermann Hearsay's very first subscriber is A. E. Newman of Bland, MO. Mr. Newman is celebrating his 40th birthday today! I hope our readers will join me in wishing Alfred a very happy birthday! Though now 40, Alfred doesn't look a day over 16! Newman says he attributes his youthful looks to healthy living and "not worrying".
It's Gasconade County Commission Thursday! What pray tell will happen today?!

It's that day of the week once again! The day that we all look forward to with great anticipation! It's Gasconade County Commission Thursday!
What will happen this morning in the road department meeting at Drake or the commission meeting at the courthouse? There's been a lot of speculation down at the coffee shop this morning!
- Will one of the commissioners be called a "lieing [expletive]", a "dirty [expletive]" or a "maggot-infested [expletive]" this morning? The boys at the coffee shop are taking bets.
- Will a concerned citizen's comments be tape-recorded and played back again on one of our local online "news" websites? Has Mike Jacquin spent any more of his personal money to have county documents copied?
- Will Commissioner Lairmore once again tell us all how much he supports the GCCS and wants to work with GCCS President Dale Ridder to get started with the courthouse preservation and restoration project?
- Will Presiding Commissioner Jost get red-faced and arbitrarily eject another senior citizen from the commission meeting?
- Will more documents be requested of Clerk Lietzow by Commissioner Penning?
- Will Commissioners Jost and Lairmore approve payment by the county to their personal attorneys for legal fees incurred during their defense in the now-famous salary overpayment lawsuit?
I won't be attending the meeting(s) this morning. It seems that people who attend the meeting frequently become the "story" instead of the official business of the commission being the "story". Some have their comments recorded and published alone "out-of-context" with no background explanation. Some have their photos taken during the meeting and are then called "gangsta rappers" the hatchetmen of the local media. Some are just summarily "ejected" from the meeting by Presiding Commissioner Jost. Instead of attending the meeting(s), I plan to watch the commission meeting on Hermann TV in the comfort of my home. That way I can eat popcorn, drink Diet Coke and burp should it become necessary.
