My son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths; for their feet rush into sin, they are swift to shed blood. – Proverbs 1:15-16 (NIV)

Swiftness is one of the characteristics of sin in the Scripture. Whether it is the adulterous woman in Proverbs 7 who runs to a young man or this depiction of the wicked rushing to shed blood, there is an urgency that sin thrusts upon us. How many decisions did we hastily make that caused us sorrow later on? Sometimes it is better to purposely wait, to walk away, and in so doing, keep away from the paths of wickedness.

Caleb was one of the 12 spies sent to see what the Promised Land looked like. When the other spies could see only giants and problems, Caleb saw another opportunity for God to be glorified. In many ways, we find ourselves constantly facing a Promised Land – a place that is exciting, yet unexplored. We finally get a grip on one season of life only for it to melt into another. We understand an industry just in time for that industry to change. But each change is another opportunity for God to be glorified. It is when our hearts are wholly focused on His faithfulness that we inherit the new horizon in front of us.

• The Board of Directors of the GCCS (Gasconade County Courthouse Society) will be meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, 4/11 to discuss the general warranty deed which has been drafted by local Attorney Don Althauser for the purpose of conveying ownership of the Roetheli properties to Gasconade County.  The meeting will be held in the second floor courtroom at the County Courthouse, and is open to the public.
• The Bluff-Tones, a popular local band, will perform this Sunday at the Clara Eitmann Messmer Amphitheatre located at Fourth and Gutenberg Streets.  Concert time is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Stealth candidate for Southern District Associate Commissioner A. E. Newman told Hermann Hearsay today that he has now met and talked with 500 eligible voters from the southern district of Gasconade County.  We have no way to verify Newman's report on his campaign.  We can only say that his claim is entirely possible, because he started campaigning nearly on year ago.
• Rumor has it that Barry Schmelly found a whole "mess" of morel mushrooms this afternoon.

One of my favorite female vocalists was voted off American Idol this week.  The judges were shocked.  Contestants were shocked.  Many viewers were shocked.  And I was shocked. 

Regardless of her untimely exit from this year's Idol contest, Pia Toscano has a future as a recording artists.  Her future is bright!

“Now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders. But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Christ would suffer. Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that he may send the Christ, who has been appointed for you-even Jesus. – Acts 3:17-20 (NIV)

As Peter is preaching to the Jewish community in Jerusalem, He makes the statement that they killed Jesus out of ignorance. But God used that ignorance to fulfill His purposes for the earth. Do you feel like you’ve made some ignorant mistakes? There is good news! God can use those actions and turn them around for His purposes, no matter how bad they are. So don’t turn away from God when you realize your mistake. Turn to God so that times of refreshing can come from the Lord. That is the very reason why Jesus was sent!
