People "play games". And a lot of those "games" aren't too nice. The "games" that are played destroy personal relationships. And when the people who "play games" are business leaders and politicians, trust and confidence in business and government are inevitably eroded over time.
Lies, deception, head games, intimidation, influence peddling, illicit affairs, sweetheart contracts, boastful pride, character assassination and so it goes! Do these "games" bring to mind any people you know?

"Games People Play" is a song written, composed and performed by singer/song-writer Joe South. In 1968, the song was released on Joe's debut album: Introspect. It won the Grammy Award for "Song of the Year" in 1970. The song has been covered by Jerry Lee Lewis, Tesla, The Georgia Satellites, Big Tom and The Mainliners, Bill Haley and His Comets, The Tremeloes, Johnny Johnson & the Bandwagon, Ike and Tina Turner, Dreadzone, Hank Williams Jr., Inner Circle as well as others. It was also mentioned in the Brian Wilson song "Games Two Can Play" from his unreleased album "Adult Child".
Noteably, in Singapore circa 1969, an instrumental version showed-up on a single by The White Crane Orchestra. The reggae band Inner Circle also released a cover version which was quite popular in Europe for a while in the mid-90s. In 2006, it was covered by Jools Holland on his album "Moving Out to the Country" with guest vocalist Marc Almond. The Scottish singer, Dick Gaughan, covered it on his album "A Different Kind of Love Song".

Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. – Psalm 43:5
It is one thing to praise God when things are going well, but to focus on heaven when things fall apart brings a challenge that only a heart that is after God can fulfill. The Psalmist reminds us that praise is not conditioned upon our circumstances. It is so easy to try to use techniques with the underlying intent of getting something back. But God will test our hearts and, in his mercy, purify our motives to the point that our only agenda is to know Him. Make a decision to praise God in ALL things.

We can certainly say that we had nothing to do with the time and place of our birth! Your nationality and heritage were chosen by God. So even if someone were born in the outer mountains of Mongolia, God has set things in place so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out and find him. The apostle Paul gives us hope and a mystery for those who wonder about the faithfulness of God to His creation. Just like the Greeks that Paul was addressing, the question is not “What is God doing in the outer reaches of the world?” but rather “What is God doing in me right now?”
