Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. – James 1:2-3

James challenges us to look at the hardships of life in a different light. Notice that trials are not a sign of God’s displeasure, but rather an instrument of God that brings perseverance into our lives. If we feel that we have not done well in trials, James challenges us to get our heads above the waters of despair. Even if we don’t see the purpose of the trial, God will use that trial to build into us what we need for life. This is a promise of Scripture that goes beyond what we currently see.

German-born orchestra leader Bert Kaempfert took his own composition, "Wonderland By Night", to the #1 position on the pop charts in November of 1960. Bert later composed such music as "Strangers In The Night", "Danke Schoen", "Spanish Eyes", and Nat King Cole's "L-O-V-E". He was also responsible for hiring the Beatles to back up Tony Sheridan's "My Bonnie" album which marked the first commercially released Beatles performance.

I can't take credit for this idea as it was emailed to me by a friend, but here's a solution to all the controversy over full body scanners at the airports:

All we need to do is develop a booth that you can step into that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have hidden on or in your body. The explosion will be contained within the sealed booth.

This would be a win-win for everyone. There would be none of this bull about racial profiling and the device would eliminate long and expensive trials.

This is so simple that it's brilliant. I can see it now: You're in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion. Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system, "Attention, standby passengers! We now have a seat available on flight number..."

Several people from Owensville and the surrounding area have called our office this morning to report a "robo-call" from A. E. Newman, candidate for Southern District Associate Commissioner.  The people telephoning our office have consistently reported a "citizen call to action" by Mr. Newman.  The jest of the call is that Newman wants Gasconade County residents to show up in large numbers for this week's county commission meeting at the Owensville City Hall.  Newman calls for citizens to protest Presiding Commissioner Jost's intent to pay the legal bills out of public funds for the two respondents in the so-called "salary over-payment lawsuit" originally filed by plaintiffs Matt Penning and Sandra Lackman on behalf of Gasconade County citizens.

Newman exhorted call recipients ... "Let's fill the meeting room at the Owensville City Hall this Thursday!  Let's tell Presiding Commissioner Jost just what we think about his intent to use $52,000 of county funds to pay these legal bills!"

County singer and songwriter Willie Nelson was busted for marijuana possession on Friday, 11/26 in Texas.  Willie admitted that the 6 ounces (170 grams) found on his tour bus belonged to him. This was Willie's third drug bust.  After his arrest and booking at the local jail, Willie paid $2500 bail and was "on the road again".

The following  is a video clip of an interview he gave on June 6, 1991.  In this interview, Willie talks about "hemp and the family farm".

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. – 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

This is a powerful passage. The God of the Bible is one of compassion. He comforts us when we go through trials. But it doesn’t stop there. Our troubles give us a vocabulary to help others who are going through the same thing! We may think that our circumstances make us unable to minister, but the Scripture tells us that the very weight around our neck can become the launching pad for ministry to others. Where others see failure and struggle, God sees the qualifications to be used mightily. No wonder the apostle Paul went into praise!

Thanksgiving is over and now it's time for Christmas songs!  Do you remember this one from 1979?



Elmo Shropshire - a.k.a DR. ELMO - is best-known for his recording of "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer", the Christmas classic which has sold more than 10 million copies since it was first broadcast by a San Francisco radio station in 1979.

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. – Romans 5:1-2

How do you view God? As someone who is waiting for you to mess up? According to the apostle Paul that view is incorrect. When we realized what God did for us through Jesus Christ, any barriers between the Father and His children are gone! An agreement of peace has been reached for all time. When we stand on this grace we have a freedom that goes beyond our performance or abilities. Now we can live as a people who already have peace with God. This is the faith needed when we fall short, because Jesus Christ has given us access today. Make sure to use it!
