"It was not through law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith."  ~ Romans 4:13

Abraham stands as a primary example of the gospel. Abraham did not receive God’s favor because of his looks or abilities. It was simply that when God made a promise Abraham believed it, even when that promise was so huge Abraham couldn’t comprehend it. Though this promise wasn’t realized until much later, Abraham still lived his life in line with the promises of God. This is what made Abraham righteous. Not his actions, but the deep trust that guided all of those actions toward God.

Who will deliver a political stump speech condemning Commissioner Penning at the Commission Meeting this Thursday?

Published by Dick Schaefer, Award-winning, Unpaid, Part-time Contributing Writer and Investigative Reporter

Date:  9/8/2010

I just can't sleep tonight!  The anticipation of tomorrow's Commission Meeting is killing me!

Who will the Owensville "Good Ol' Boy" Club run in to deliver a hate speech against poor Matt Penning tomorrow?  I'm sure CNL and the Gasconade County Republican will be on hand to photograph, video record and audio record the entire show if there is any excitement!  Charlie Brown will also be there to tape record whatever might happen for Hermann cable TV. Somehow Jeff Noedel and Dave Marner have a real nose for this sort of "explosive news".  It's really uncanny!  It's almost like they get tipped off ahead of time, so they can bring their high-powered photographic equipment and their camcorders!

I'd rather see Mr. Noedel and Mr. Marner report on the deficiencies found by the state auditors during their 2010 audit of Gasconade County though.  I'd rather see them report on the material substance of the ethics violations alleged against Presiding Commissioner Ron Jost by Northern District Associate Commissioner Matt Penning and citizen watchdog Mike Jacquin.  I'd rather see them report on the status of courthouse preservation and renovation efforts todate.  I'd rather see them report on the YTD condition of the 2010 Gasconade County Operating Budget.  Another really cool expose would be the status of engineering student Horace Brown's engineering study for the new emergency road needed at the courthouse.  Perhaps you will recall it was reported by CNL some time ago that Southern District Associate Commissioner Jerry Lairmore was directing young Mr. Brown on this project for one of his classes.  Eugene Jacquin has just about completed the site clearance on the property immediately west of the courthouse, so we'll be ready to start on that road just about anytime now!  I can't wait to see this road being constructed!

Bible Verse Of The Day - Tuesday, 9/7/2010

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. – Matthew 16:24-25

The Bible is filled with paradoxes. The wisdom of losing your life only makes sense when you realize that there is another life to be gained. But that new life only comes when we first suffer the loss of giving up what we hold dear. Part of the dilemma is that we have to give up the familiar with no sense of what the new holds. This requires an action that engages our heart, mind and soul. And that is when the Lord can use us the most. To lose our life positions us to walk by faith, and that is the path that God has made us for since the Garden of Eden.

The City of Owensville is governed by a Mayor as well as other elected officials known as the Board of Aldermen. The Aldermen are made up of four officials, representing two wards that serve two-year terms.  One of the four aldermen, John Kamler, recently offered his services to work toward "county unity" after having been prompted to do so by local "news" publisher Jeff Noedel.  Apparently the affairs of the City of Owensville are so well managed and so well in control that Mr. Kamler has the time to assume this additional responsibility!  Maybe the City of Hermann can learn from the City of Owensville how it is they can afford to "lend" one of their alderman out to the county to participate in the "county unity effort" which Mr. Noedel is promoting?

And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”  ~ Numbers 13:32-33

In this famous Scripture twelve men were chosen to spy out the land that God had promised to the Israelites. The problem occurred when the men who went saw the inhabitants as bigger than the God who had sent them. They allowed the circumstances to blind their vision of Jehovah. Unfortunately, this action kept the Israelites in the wilderness for 40 years! We face similar challenges. How do we see our surroundings? Do we see ourselves as grasshoppers? How big is our God in those settings? It can mean the difference between going forward or staying in the wilderness.
