Recount Hearing Set For 3 p.m., Friday, 8/13/2010 In Hermann

Published by Dick Schaefer, Award-winning, Unpaid, Part-time Contributing Writer and Amateur Investigative Reporter

Date:  8/12/2010

Citizens interested in the vote recount case "Larry Miskel v. Ronald Jost" will want to attend tomorrow's hearing which is set to be heard by 20th Circuit Presiding Judge The Honorable Gael D. Wood.  The case will be heard at 3:00 p.m. in the second floor courtroom at the Gasconade County Courthouse in Hermann, Missouri.  Attorney of record for the appellant Larry Miskel is P. Dennis Barks of Hermann.  Attorney of record for the respondent Ron Jost is Brett J. Hellmann of Jefferson City.

Yours truly will be in attendance, and I will file a report on the courtroom proceedings Friday evening.

A question I have is why would Ron Jost, who ostensibly won the Republican primary election for Presiding Commissioner of Gasconade County, now stand in the way of the recount being requested by Larry Miskel?  Wouldn't a reasonable and honorable man want to know for sure that he had won the majority of the votes fair and square and without any lingering questions left in the minds of the voters?  I plan to ask that question of Mr. Jost tomorrow afternoon.

Hermann Hearsay Endorses Sharon Meyer for Gasconade County Clerk

Published by Jimmy Oldsun, NDRIRSRWRAFTC & Editor

Date:  8/12/2010

Hermann Hearsay is first again, this time with an endorsement for the General Election!  Our Editorial Board met yesterday evening, and we unanimously decided to endorse Sharon Meyer for Gasconade County Clerk in the November 2nd General Elections.  During the succeeding weeks, we will publish information to support our endorsement of Mrs. Meyer.  We will explain why we believe Mrs. Meyer will be bring need change to the Office of County Clerk.

The following is a letter from Sharon Meyer to her friends, neighbors and to the citizens of Gasconade County .....

Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Gasconade County Citizens,

As you may have heard, my name is Sharon Meyer and I am running for the office of the Gasconade County Clerk. My husband is Mark Meyer, and our son is Patrick.

We live, near Stony Hill, on 10 acres of the farm Joseph Benz, my great-grandfather settled on with his family in the 1890’s. E.G. Benz, who once served as this county’s Surveyor, was my grandfather.

My parents were Anna Marie and Edgar Benz. Through their love and nourishing I have become a person with principles and moral integrity. One ready to serve with the highest standard of accountability and professionalism because the citizens of Gasconade County deserve no less than the best!

As the County’s ELECTION AUTHORITY, I will work endlessly to make sure that the election process is conducted in accordance with all federal and state election laws. As the County Election Authority, I am committed to ensuring that anyone who wishes to and is eligible to is allowed to vote.

Managing the elections process is a great responsibility, but do you know it is not the only duty of the Clerk. The Clerk acts as the county’s CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER. Make no mistake! Gasconade County government is big business – approximately $5 million a year, which is generated from taxes, collected from you the citizens!

I will run the Clerk’s office with the highest level of accountability, transparency, and provide strong fiscal management of our citizens’ tax dollars.

People need to ask why the Clerk’s Office is not using a computer to generate a $5 million Budget Summary. Is it not time to put away the paper and pencil?

Finally, the County Clerk is elected to represent and serve the citizens. The Clerk is responsible for keeping the citizens informed. As the CUSTODIAN OF RECORDS:

I will attend all meetings of the County Commission and provide accurate minutes. If I cannot attend a meeting for some reason, someone from the Clerk’s office will.

I will no longer allow an official to give the impression that a document just needs to be filed and it will be up to a citizen to find it.

Currently, citizens in Gasconade County are sometimes charged fees for information at considerably higher rates than the surrounding counties? I will ensure that the fees charged are fair and correct according to Missouri law.

Finally, I believe it is time that Gasconade County Clerk’s Office has a quality Website. It is time that citizens can access county information and contact the County Clerk on line.

The clerk’s office is a critical part of the county government. I believe I am the best person to handle the responsibilities of the office, and I will bring a higher level of integrity, accountability and professionalism. Why, because the citizens of Gasconade County deserve NO LESS than the BEST! I would be honored to have your vote for County Clerk.

On August 3rd and November 2nd please remember to vote because it is not only our right as citizens of the United States, but it is our civic duty. Our votes can and do make a difference at all levels of government.

Sincerely,

Sharon Ann Meyer

If your invitation to Rush Limbaugh's wedding was lost in the mail (like mine), you're in luck. The conservative talk-show host has posted wedding photos on his Facebook page.

The ceremony took place in June, and you'll recall the juicy facts. It's the 59-year-old's fourth marriage. (Four's the charm?) He tied the knot with 33-year-old Kathryn Rogers in Palm Beach, Florida. And Elton John (yes, the one and only) performed for the couple. He really did: There are now pictures to prove it. In fact, along with performance shots, the singer is shown yukking it up with the couple.

While the gay liberal's appearance at the Republican's wedding caused confusion in the blogosphere, John's fee may have cleared up any misunderstanding: The musician was reportedly paid $1 million for his performance. Nothing conservative about that.

For all you libs out there, here are a few photos from the wedding of Rush and Kathryn Limbaugh .......

Were there any "voting irregularities" in the election for Gasconade County Presiding Commissioner?

Published by Dick Schaefer, Award-winning, Unpaid, Part-time Contributing Writer and Amateur Investigative Reporter

Date:  8/12/2010

The citizens of Gasconade County now await the final official count on the race for Presiding Commissioner.  Comes now word late this afternoon from Circuit Clerk Joyce Gabathuler that Presiding Commissioner Ron Jost has requested a change of judge in the legal matter of the recount hearing.  We understand that the Miskel people are confident they will prevail no matter what judge hears their case.  We understand the Jost people are nervous.

Rumors have filtered out into the community.  Speculation abounds!  The people of Gasconade County want to know:
  1. Were some votes uncounted?
  2. Were the absentee ballots counted correctly?
  3. Were absentee ballots offered to the county's military personel serving in far-away deployments?
  4. Were the ballot scanning machines properly calibrated?
  5. Who is really their Presiding Commissioner Elect?

GCCS Annual Meeting

Published by Dick Schaefer, Unpaid, Part-time Contributing Writer and Amateur Investigative Reporter

Date:  8/10/2010

I attended my Second Annual GCCS Membership Meeting last night. The meeting was held at the courthouse.  Hi-lites from the meeting were:
  1. President Dale Ridder led the meeting through a one-hour agenda.
  2. Secretary Sharon Meyer read the minutes from the 2009 Annual Meeting.  The minutes were approved as read.
  3. Treasurer Glenn Warnebold gave a financial report.  The GCCS had expenses of $3,397 for the period of 8/1/2009 to 7/31/2010.  The GCCS remains solvent with a bank balance of about $1500 not counting membership renewal fees which were accepted last night.
  4. President Ridder discussed by-law changes which the current board of directors has been working on.  He received input from members on two versions of the GCCS proposed mission statement.  President Ridder stated that it his intention to ask for a meeting with the County Commission to discuss how the GCCS can assist the Commission with efforts to move ahead with the courthouse preservation and restoration project.
  5. Two "at-large" board member positions were up for election.  The current board nominated current members John Estes and Glenn Warnebold for the two positions.  Mike Jacquin nominated Danny Baumstark.  Before the vote could be taken, Glenn Warnebold withdrew his name from consideration.  A motion was then made and seconded that the membership accept the nominations of John Estes and Danny Baumstark and elect them by acclimation.  The motion carried by voice vote unanimously.
  6. Vice-President Olan Stemme gave the membership a report on the status of the clean-up work on the Holland Property.  The clean-up work is continuing, and it is expected that the work will be ompleted within a couple more months.
  7. Under "new business", member Mike Martens asked if ways could be found to keep the general membership updated on the progress being made by the Board of Directors.  Secretary Sharon Meyer will collect everyone's email address and send out copies of board meeting minutes.
