As we brace for the blizzard which is bearing down upon us tonight, I harkened back to the Great Buffalo Blizzard of 1977, also referred to by some as the "White Death".  Here is an interesting slideshow about that "mother of all blizzards".  Let us hope that the "blizzard" which we shall face on Tuesday and Wednesday is no where near as big or terrible as the one which slammed Buffalo, NY!

That was my senior year at Buff State; what memories I have. So glad I bought postcards and a T-shirt. Now that 34 years later, the record is unbroken and they are collector's items. My yearbook has great photos too!

We had just returned from Winter Break; had we known classes would be canceled, we would have spent more time at home. I remember being jealous of the "lucky" ones whose flights were on later days than mine and were canceled, so they didn't have to deal with it at all. I remember everyone walking in the streets and only being allowed 1 container of milk per week unless you could prove you had a a baby at home. I remember (because it was a series of consecutive snowfalls) having people over for dinner at my off-campus apt. (that I didn't particularly like--they were friends of a housemate) and they got trapped with us for several days. I remember the campus parking lot, where all you could see were car antennas, not the cars themselves. I remember having to go to the attic to open a window to knock out snow that was up to the top of our little house. I remember the incredible snow sculptures people made in a contest outside Albright-Knox Art Gallery.
