For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. – Mark 7:21-22
The Bible doesn’t describe sin as something from the outside. It is not like an infection that victimizes us. Instead, our problems are from within. We want to blame our circumstances for our behavior. Current speculations make it is easy to blame genetic coding for bad attitudes. But according to Scripture, we are not victims in need of sympathy, but sinners in need of a savior. But it is in this realization that true change can come. If we don’t realize the problems within, we will continually blame others and grow bitter because our issues follow us wherever we go. To acknowledge our condition before God brings the healing that we desperately need.
