German-born orchestra leader Bert Kaempfert took his own composition, "Wonderland By Night", to the #1 position on the pop charts in November of 1960. Bert later composed such music as "Strangers In The Night", "Danke Schoen", "Spanish Eyes", and Nat King Cole's "L-O-V-E". He was also responsible for hiring the Beatles to back up Tony Sheridan's "My Bonnie" album which marked the first commercially released Beatles performance.
