Several people from Owensville and the surrounding area have called our office this morning to report a "robo-call" from A. E. Newman, candidate for Southern District Associate Commissioner.  The people telephoning our office have consistently reported a "citizen call to action" by Mr. Newman.  The jest of the call is that Newman wants Gasconade County residents to show up in large numbers for this week's county commission meeting at the Owensville City Hall.  Newman calls for citizens to protest Presiding Commissioner Jost's intent to pay the legal bills out of public funds for the two respondents in the so-called "salary over-payment lawsuit" originally filed by plaintiffs Matt Penning and Sandra Lackman on behalf of Gasconade County citizens.

Newman exhorted call recipients ... "Let's fill the meeting room at the Owensville City Hall this Thursday!  Let's tell Presiding Commissioner Jost just what we think about his intent to use $52,000 of county funds to pay these legal bills!"

If you yourself have received one of these "robo-calls", we'd like to know about it.  Please leave us a brief comment.

  1. A Pedestrian says,

I'd go but it's too long of a walk.

Perhaps, I should call and protest!

  2. I returned home for lunch and found Newman's call recorded on my answering machine. If I can get the morning off, I plan to be there.

  4. I called Newman back. He says not to bring signs and to be respectful but firm.

  5. Not everyone will be able to attend. Should we send someone with a signed petition stating that we are opposed to this $52,000 expenditure?

  6. There's a rumor going around that people are planning to bring coffee and breakfast food for a "tailgate party" of sorts on the parking lot adjoining the Owensville City Hall this Thursday. I don't know what the idea is other than to demonstrate support for those in the meeting who speak out against paying Lairmore's and Aubuchon's legal bills! I here tell that there will be coffee, orange juice, link sausage, eggs, cinnamon rolls ..... maybe even some Bloody Marys and Mimosas!
