This morning in Owensville at the weekly meeting of the Gasconade County Commission, the Commissioners agreed to place the 'Use Tax Proposal' on the November ballot. Hermann Hearsay will be publishing more details and analysis regarding this subject at a future date.
At a time when county revenues are down, necessitating a very austere county budget, Hermann Hearsay applauds the Commissioners (as a group) for their decision to place this revenue generating proposal on the November ballot. Hermann Hearsay also applauds Northern District Associate Commissioner Matt Penning for promoting the idea of implementing a 'use tax' within the county. At a time when no tax increase will be very popular with citizens, we appreciate Commissioner Penning's courage and determination to promote this idea with his colleagues. If approved by the voters in November, certain purchases which have heretofore escaped taxation by the county will be taxed.
