A. E. Newman sent us the following PRESS RELEASE yesterday. Mr. Newman announced his candidacy for the office of Southern District Associate Commissioner of Gasconade County several months ago.

A. E. Newman (I) for Southern District Associate Commissioner of Gasconade County
11/4/2010
(Bland, MO) ----- The 2010 mid-term elections are now history. Voters of Gasconade County have decided to retain incumbent officers rather than change the direction our county has been going. Ron Jost (R) won re-election as Presiding Commissioner. Lesa Lietzow (R) won re-election as County Clerk. Unopposed incumbents Shawn Schlottach (R) and Joey Grosse (R) won re-election as County Collector and County Treasurer respectively.
As you may already know, I have announced my intent to run as an Independent candidate for the office of Southern District Associate Commissioner of Gasconade County now held by Jerry Lairmore (R) of Owensville. During the stump speeches I have given and the small group meetings in which I have participated, I have received a good deal of encouragement from friends and neighbors. In the coming 24 months, I will deliver many more stump speeches and attend many more small group gatherings. In these speeches and meetings, I will unveil my concerns about the current direction of and my proposals for Gasconade County, and I will educate the voters as to why the current "good ol' boys (and girls) network" must be broken up.
My election campaign will primarily consist of going door to door in the southern district, conducting stump speeches before small venues and issuing press releases from time to time. I am hesitant to grant interviews to the media, because I don't trust the media to give me a fair shake. I have seen what the media has done to other political candidates in the past. For the most part, these interviews have been one-sided, and I want no part of that. I suppose it is possible that I could be persuaded otherwise as the campaign unfolds. For now, however, I will be getting my message out by talking to individuals and small groups.
My campaign will seek to educate the electorate on the following issues:
- lack of transparency by county government,
- lack of financial accountability and mismanagement of public funds by county government,
- lack of forward-looking vision by the county commission, and
- lack of leadership by the county commission.
I just hope Newman plans to tell us what he proposes to do about these problems IF he is elected. Lots of politicians talk about problems, but very few offer concrete solutions!

Does Newman have a set schedule for his future stump speeches? I've heard the speeches and group meetings are pretty impromptu. A friend of mine went to one his house meetings and had a great deal of fun!

1. I've sent you this same Press Release, and so far I haven't seen you do a damned thing with it! So, why should I rush to grant you and CNL an exclusive interview only to be treated poorly as you have already treated me and just as you have treated other political candidates.
2. The folks at Hermann Hearsay, HermannMoNews and the Hermann A-C treat me with much more kindness and respect than you do, Mr. Chorley.
3. I emailed you a copy of my 11/4 Press Release on Friday, 11/5. Thus far, you have done nothing with it. You haven't published it, and you haven't responded via return email to ask clarifying questions.
Now how do ya like those "facts", Mr. Chorley? I have more. Would you like more?
No, Mr. Chorley, I'll just wait and see what you do with my 11/4 Press Release and future Press Releases before I jump at your offer to "interview" me! Besides, your subscription numbers over there at CNL are low and your readership is likely concentrated in the Berger and Hermann areas. I'm running for Southern District Associate Commissioner. So, if I grant interviews at all, it would make more sense to grant them to the Gasconade County Republican, the Bland Courier, the Hermann A-C, HermannMoNews and Hermann Hearsay, i.e. publications with greater readership than CNL's in the southern district.
I'm sure you boys over at CNL can stay busy enough without my lil' ol' interview by invading the privacy of grief stricken mourners at their family members' funerals, taking photos of badly mangled automobiles wrapped around trees and filming footage of the burning homes of families which are made homeless as a result of those unfortunate fires. Besides, don't you have more than enough to do with your responsibilities as a Hermann Alderman? You should take care of your Hermann constituents, Mr. Chorley, instead of surfing the internet to make your lame, accusatory comments at 10:50 pm on a Saturday night!
You people at CNL have no human sensitivity or common decency. You have no respect for other human beings at their lowest moments just when they have suffered a major loss. You care only about running the most sensational and voyeuristic stories you can in the hopes of increasing your readership. I've stopped reading your trash myself.
And now, to top it off, you dare to come on to this website and berate me! Why don't you berate me on your own website, Mr. Chorley? You have my email address, and you could have contacted me directly .... IF you were a professional. But you evidently are not a professional!
You and your publisher, Jeff Noedel, do not have my respect at all you. You are pathetic yellow journalists of the worst order. You certainly ARE NOT journalists.
I really want no part of any association with you, Jeff Noedel or anyone else at CNL. IF I grant interviews to anyone, I will grant my interviews to the legitimate press and to fair and balanced blogs, Mr. Chorley. Now, I'll keep sending you my Press Releases, but you and I both know that you will do nothing with them, because you and Mr. Noedel are supporting my opponent, Mr. Lairmore. That has been evident to everyone in the Hermann community for a long, long time!

ReplyDeleteHave you talked with Mr. Newman directly or sent him an email message? I've seen your recent invitation in a comment here on Hermann Hearsay, but it might be more expedient if you were to contact him directly. I don't know how often he gets on this site to read our postings and monitor the numerous comments we receive. I know he is very busy meeting with likely voters in the southern part of the county during evening hours and weekends. It is very possible he hasn't even seen your invitation. I also know that he is apprehensive about doing interviews with the media, especially with individuals and organizations he doesn't trust. I too have tried to land an interview with him, but have thus far been unsuccessful. Like you, I am stll trying though!

I have his cellphone #, but he has asked me not to give it out to other people. Maybe he plans to set up campaign headquarter in Bland or Owensville. If so, I'm sure he'll have a listed number at that point.

They happen to agree with A. E. Newman of Bland, and they are laughing at you for becoming sooooo obviously agitated. Has Newman's political campaign hit too close to home or is he striking too close to the truth?
