Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you.” – Joshua 3:5
The word “consecrate” means “to set ourselves apart”. Athletes will set themselves apart to compete, businesses will set themselves apart to learn how to master the marketplace. Why would it be so unusual for Christians to set themselves apart for God? For those from a liturgical tradition, Lent is a time of setting apart. But the setting apart is not enough – we are asking the Lord to do amazing things among us! Joshua proclaimed this before anything happened in the promised land. Are we willing to believe that God will do the same for us and set ourselves apart to be ready for it?
